Abstract: In recent years,platinum-group element (PGE)deposits hosted in black shales,a non-tradi-tional type of PGE deposit,have been explored for in some countries,such as Russia.PGE mineralization associated with black shales is also found in southern China.Black shales will become a new resource of PGE and rare metals.There is a similar metallogenic-tectonic setting in the Langshan-Zha'ertaishan area,west-central Inner Mongolia,which belongs to a Mesoproterozoic rift system.In this area black shales are very well developed and placer platinum deposits,placer PGE anomalies and a number of good clues to gold-copper-polymetallic deposits related to black shales have been found in areas where black shales are distributed.So the area has good ore prospects for PGE deposits related to black shales.
